The Old Spaghetti House

Upon entering The Old Spaghetti House, one enters inside a different world. The restaurant is lit with dim lights, booths are lined along the walls, stained glass lamps hover above the tables, and antique furniture pieces are showcased all over the walls. It is truly a comforting feeling, stepping inside a childhood memory perhaps, when you entered your lola's kitchen hoping to get a taste of the food she is preparing for a family feast.

There is no doubt that The Old Spaghetti House feels just like a cherished experience with the family. The décor on the walls, which are personal possessions of Lizzie and Chito Guerrero, the owners of the restaurant, friends and family, are priceless. Each piece is unique, irreplaceable, which makes the restaurant feel like a treasured home. The restaurant itself is made of antique wooden panels, antique doors, comfortable bunk seating upholstered with fine fabrics, tiffany lamps, wooden tables, classic batibot chairs, antique decors: brass pots and pans, flower vases, old paintings and art works.

It is not by chance that the motto of The Old Spaghetti House is "Treasures Waiting to be Discovered." Since, not only does the atmosphere capture treasures from the past, but the menu too is a treasure chest waiting to be discovered. The menu of "The Old Spaghetti House" was developed by Lizzie Guerrero, who studied culinary arts in the Center for Culinary Arts, Manila. The recipes that she uses have been passed-on to The Old Spaghetti House from friends and relatives. Such items include Mama's Chicken Piccata (Lizzie's Lola) (P140), Tita Nenette's Eggplant Parmigiana (P130), Ate Badjie's Mud Pie and Spaghetti w/ Meat Balls (P110/P165) and Mommy Annie's American Baked Spareribs. (P160).

It was just another boring day, no work and no classes. So we decided to go food tripping! We've heard about T.O.S.H. which just recently opened here in Cebu. We went there to see it for ourselves. And I'm just sucker for pasta and other Italian food. Can't resist trying this new spaghetti house, or rather The Old Spaghetti House. I had a hard time picking what to order. I wanted a dish with lots of cheese of course. So, I ordered one of their best sellers, the chicken and mushroom in white sauce. Totally it was delicious! Can't deny it. And the place ambiance was also nice and cozy. A nice place for a romantic date.

Bigby's Cafe and Restaurant

The big name in the food business is finally in town. Bigby's Cafe and Restaurant has opened its newest branch in Smallville Complex, in this city last March 3, 2007.

Ilonggos can now taste the exquisite goodness of the famous Rack-a-Bye-Baby, an inviting and glistening barbecued pork ribs. The city can now swoon in delight while savoring the flavor-rich Pescado Al Fresco, a sauteed Cream Dory fillet accompanied with a pesto and filled in a sea of onions and shoe-string potatoes. They are just two of the many delectable dishes listed on the Bigby's menu.

Bigby's cozy interior, which is basically made up of wood panels and clear glasses that perfectly go with the wooden tables and chairs, adds glamor to this new gastronomic haven. The comfy and relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere makes Bigby's a sanctuary of pleasurable indulgence -- from its tempting and fulfilling concoctions to the equally captivating ambiance.

A Bigby's experience is more than just a treat to the palate. Bigby's is a fusion of sensible art and great food. Hanged on its walls are the different kinds of visual treats which includes the festive masks, pins and puppets from Bangkok. These, together with the stamp collections spell an evident marriage of unique artistry and culinary perfection.

Tease and satisfy your palate big time. After all, The Next Big Thing needs a huge Bigby's experience.

Bigby's is one of the known restaurants in Cebu City. If you aren't one of the backpacker types that brave to venture the run-downed places or the pongko-ponko offerings in the streets, then this is the right place for you.

Think of it as Burgoo or T.G.I Friday's in Manila (but, cheaper). The ambiance is casual, fun, and very quirky. The walls are emblazoned with a bunch of traveler's memorabilia, ranging from souvenir plates, buttons, pins, mardi gras masks and a pair of skis. Couches are available for a cozy date or for a small group of family or friends and the usual tables and chairs for large parties.

If you glance up on the ceiling, you'll see the crazy spiral lamps and other little surprises which you can check out when you get there yourself.

Bigby's offers a wide range of foodstuffs ranging from appetizers to desserts. So there's really something for everyone.

Last Sinulog, we went to Ayala for the fireworks. Then we had dinner to this restaurant. It offered different types of food like pasta, seafood, grills, and sizzlers. They also had these food trip busters. We ordered the Belly Buster and Fisherman's Catch. I also ordered from their pasta menu, the Grilled Chicken Carbonara. I love pasta!

It really was fit for a whole barkada. We even had left overs!

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme is a chain of doughnut stores. Its parent company is Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States.

Krispy Kreme sells a variety of doughnuts, but it is most famous for its traditional glazed doughnut, often served warm. Select varieties of Krispy Kreme doughnuts are carried in many grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations. Krispy Kreme doughnuts can also be found in some larger Wal-Mart and Target stores in the United States; Wal-Mart, Loblaws supermarkets, and Petro-Canada gas stations in Canada; and now many Tesco supermarkets and Tesco Extra hypermarkets in the United Kingdom. Food City stores also now get doughnuts from Krispy Kreme.

While we were at Manila, we were thinking what to bring as "pasalubong". Of course we want it to be something that's not found her in Cebu. After visiting my uncle in Laguna, we decided to drop by SM Mall of Asia. And there we saw these delicious doughnuts. Its not yet available in Cebu so we decided that's what we're going to buy as pasalubong.

It's so mouth-watering and it really melts in your mouth. It's simply de-li-ci-uos! I loved the Reese peanut butter doughnuts and the glazed chocolate cake. Actually, I like almost all of the flavors. I'm really am a sweet-tooth, I'm a sucker for anything with chocolate and cheese! :D Here are more of the flavors:

think.write.publish

What would I be writing in this blog?

hmmm... laugh... This could contain anything that would tickle my funny bone. It could be a comic strip, a joke, or a very funny experience. I will also be giving reviews of the anime (japanese animation) or movies that I've watched and liked (coz usually I like comedy movies or shows). learn... Whatever I learn and find quite interesting, I would probably post it here too. It's always good to impart your knowledge to everyone. Anything that would make me go "ahaa! *lightbulb*" would go here for everyone to read. listen... The music that I listen to would depend on my mood. If I like releasing my anger, I go for rock or alternative music. Bossa or acoustic songs would be nice if I want to chill and relax. If I'm in love of corz love songs are what I'll be listening to. I'm open to any type of music if I'm just feeling good. And I also love to sing! :D love... Mostly the things that I would write here are the things that I love in life. I love to eat, read, sleep, sing, or just anything under the sun that would interest me. ^_^
